While applying for a Russia eVisa, each applicant is required to submit a scanned copy of their passport bio page as one of the core required documents.

What Exactly is a Passport Bio Page?

A passport bio page is the inside page of your passport that contains all the essential details. The page includes your:

Photograph
Full name
Nationality
Date of Birth
Passport number
Passport issue & expiry date
Gender
MRZ Code

What is a MRZ code?

An MRZ is a machine readable zone present at the bottom of the bio page. It contains a certain sequence of letters, symbols and numerals, designed to be scanned by immigration officers upon arrival.

Why Is This Scan Required?

The passport bio page scan allows us to verify your identity and confirm that the details entered in your application match your official travel document.

It also helps us confirm that your passport meets the requirements for the Russia eVisa. Your passport must be:

Issued by a country eligible for Russia eVisa.
Machine readable
Valid for at least 6 months from the date you submit your application

What happens if my passport does not meet the required conditions?

If the required conditions are not met, your application will not move forward and you will need to reapply using an acceptable passport.

How to Scan or Photograph Your Passport Bio Page

You can use a scanner or a phone camera to capture your passport’s bio page. Follow the steps below to get a perfect image:

If Using a Scanner:

Open your passport bio page and place it flat on the scanner.
Make sure the full page sits within the scanning area
Once scanned, check if any text is cropped or not visible.

If Using a Phone or Camera

Place your passport on a flat surface in a well-lit room.
Ensure that the bio page lies as flat as possible.
Hold your device directly above the page and take the photo.

Note: The final image should capture each detail of your passport bio page and must be clear, legible, and with no reflections or shadows.

What type of scanners can I use to scan my passport bio page?

You can use a flatbed scanner or scanner apps that are available online and are free to use.

Important Considerations

Do not use physically damaged or expired passports for your Russia eVisa application.
If your passport is close to expiry or has already expired, renew your passport before applying.
